I was at Shijiazhuang, provincial capital of Hebei, on my way back from visiting old Maoist-style communes in Shanxi provinces, when I saw the following fast-food chain. Aside from the obvious Lee namesake, doesn’t the picture remind you of Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hisen Loong?

More on this trip coming up - heading to the villages in Shanxi proved interesting, as I caught a glimpse of how people outside of the major cities interpreted the Maoist legacy, saw gangsters extorting vendors, and stayed at a stranger’s house in a small city (he had a big Maoist poster in his room).

Mr Li sells beef noodles: ‘李先生加州牛肉面’。 Not too bad but I had the Fried Egg & Tomatoes with Rice. Coffee tasted like something from a 3-in-1 packet.

You’ve been away way too long.. No resemblance to Lee Hsien Loong at all. Nice blog, by the way, I’m very impressed by how much you have managed to break the mold and how much you’ve managed to accomplish.
